The Gate and the Graveyard: Where Does Transgender History Go from Here?

November 9, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

Penn State Altoona will host Dr. M.W. Bychowski on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 12:15 p.m. for the Zoom lecture “The Gate and the Graveyard: Where Does Transgender History Go from Here?”
The image of the gate and the graveyard looms large over the history of transgender people. Gatekeeping blocks the roads to inclusive education, professional security, and accurate representation of transgender past and stories. Long has the graveyard stood beside the gate as the alternative for transgender lives. Today we explore the places of critical historical discourse to find those intersections where transgender pasts, presents, and futures meet.
Bychowski is a full-time English faculty member at Case Western Reserve University.
As the Anisfield-Wolf Fellow, she teaches courses on diversity and social justice, including seminars on transgender literature, queer Christianity, trans narratives of color, women of the Civil Rights Movement, disability history, and intersectional feminisms.
