Penn State Altoona Theatre Performances: theLASTree and Make or Break

Penn State Altoona’s Division of Arts and Humanities presents two original puppet theatre productions created and directed by Associate Teaching Professor of Theatre Arts Laurencio Carlos Ruiz: theLASTree returns and the premiere of Make or Break.

theLASTree is a lyrical family-friendly puppet show featuring seven vignettes with two main characters: an ancient tree, (Victor Brunsden) that is fed up with humans but refuses to die and Mother Nature (Naomi Baker), the Storyteller, who asks for help as she explains why she is afraid of the consequences of deforestation, pollution and plastic waste, and the suffering of her ecosystems. theLAStree It is suitable for all audiences and for children over 6 years of age. Performances on March 23, 24, 25 at 7:30PM and March 26 at 2:00PM. Running time 45 minutes.

Make or Break is a puppet show featuring five expressionist vignettes with four main characters: Wailing Mother, Baby/Boy/Teen, Erebusaresphobos and Hand-Minions. This ‘speechless’ puppet show is based on wars’ own history, the culture of weapons, and the violence and horror that war inflicts. Inspired by personal encounters, our own history of violence, Picasso’s Guernica, Ruben’s The Massacre of the Innocents, Jan Svankmajer’s Darkness, Light, Darkness, and Greek mythology.

Make or Break (PG-13) is suitable for adults and teenagers over 13 years of age.

Performances on March 23, 24, 25 at 8:45PM and March 26 at 3:15PM. Running time 45 minutes.
